Brenda Sutherland's Story
I've been a volunteer at Gregory Heights Elementary School for the past five years. I never thought I'd be a "PTA" mom but on my oldest child's first day of Kindergarten I stayed to attend the "Tea and Tissues" the PTSA was hosting. The parent volunteers who spoke that day talked about making a difference for every child at our school. The PTSA motto Every Child One Voice really hit me.
I've spent much of my adult life as a birth doula supporting and advocating for women and families during a pinnacle moment in life. PTSA was a simple extension of that type of work.
Being an advocate for improved access to technology, a well run, well stocked library, academic enrichments that are available to every student has become another aspect of my passion for service.
